CalCUPA

The challenge

The California CUPA Forum runs training and the annual conference for California's Unified Program, which covers hazardous materials and hazardous waste compliance across the state. Its site has years of program guidance, conference history and training material.

All of it sat in a legacy CMS with no layout system behind it. Pages were centred blocks of text, one after another. No hierarchy, and nothing on the page to separate program guidance from a conference notice.

The project

I exported the CMS page table, 403 rows of it, and wrote a converter that mapped each row onto a Bootstrap 5 template with shared header and footer includes. It produced 257 pages, each with a title banner and breadcrumbs.

Scripting it rather than rebuilding by hand means the whole site regenerates when the template changes, so no page drifts away from the next.

The front end now has the Forum's green brand and a site-wide search, with the nav grouped by Programs, Education & Resources and Events. Conference registration leads the homepage.

The LMS behind it

The site is half the job. The other half is the Moodle LMS that holds CalCUPA's on-demand training, where members earn REHS and ICC continuing education units. I have worked on that platform and its hosting since 2022.

The refresh joined them up. The homepage now sends people into the LMS instead of leaving it as a link buried in a menu.
